February-28th–Week 09- 2017
Sorry, I am a wee bit late this weeks report, been waiting to write something good, or at least better, the fishing fell of the cliff again on Sunday, Saturday seemed OK, most catching fish on a variety of flies, mostly yellows, but Sunday was a bummer, water back cloudy and poor visibility, cold wind and gusty, a few fishermen picking up the odd fish but nothing like they should be getting at this time of year, Monday, yesterday, well I was away all day, but on reading the book it seemed to be an OK kind of day, everybody was catching fish, today, well Leslie Mitchell and his Buddy Jim Pollock were here, plus some others, I know Martin had 3, all on Montanans’ unknown about Matt, but I saw him with at least 1, but poor Leslie and Jim was a big zero, I had so wished for them to have had a good day, but it was a great day warm and bright, I know we have made a big mess at the boat Jetties, but please be reassured its all in the name of progress, the idea is that we will have all-weather access to the boats, thus enabling cars, vans, motorbikes’ to be able to take their gear down to the boats, unfortunately for us, storm Doris arrived, an although not much snow, we did get a lot of rain, the result was / is a quagmire, never mind all will be alright on the night, its soon going to be warm and sunny spring is just around the corner, get ready boys the fish are awaiting, Proper fly fishing is all about catching with a fly that best represents what is in the water, this year, the water is already stuffed with small black and green nymphs, and an assortment of coloured beetles, so for this time of year its Pheasant tailed nymphs, Montana’s, and if that doesn’t work a green Fritz or Cats Whisker would be good, whatever it is that works, would and should make your days fishing a pleasure, however if is 20 or 30 fish your after, ours is not the place to be, snakes and similar high tech flies are not accepted here, and that by a majority vote of fishing regulars. But then if you are out for a pleasurable days fishing you wouldn’t be using them anyway.
