Goldenloch
January-23rd –Week 04- 2017
It’s week 4, January, now most of my blog readers know that I keep my own record system, and it tends to be all about the Goldenloch and I also have kept some statistics and have done so for a good few years now, this past week has, believe it or not has seen the water temperature rise, albeit a very small amount, just over half a degree, so lets put this into context, since mid October the loch temperature has been dropping steadily and the curve tends to bottom out at 1 degree, this is the surface temperature at 9 inches it is 2 degrees and there it will stay till mid March when the curve temperature will rise steadily, however last week, with the unusual mild weather air temperature 8 to 10 degrees, and more importantly, the complete lack of rain since December the 24th this has allowed the water temperature to rise, giving us a week worth remembering, that has been some cracking fish caught and not just stockies, as the Goldenloch has a large head of fish, some a fair age there is obviously pockets of fish hibernating, we know this is a fact as often in the spring fish are caught with bloodworms and similar invertebrates’ attached to them, this is common in fisheries such as ours, this week has seen quite a few fish like this being caught, Vince Humphrey and his brother Albert up in Scotland for some Salmon fishing, visited last week, both had a fantastic day, with 18 fish all returned, mostly caught at the far end of the loch using a variety of traditional flies, several fish in the 4 to 5 lb size, Sandy Drummond had a good day 8 returned and Leslie Mitchell partnered with Jim Pollock catching 8 between them all returned, But by far one of the best catches was by Sean Burger, Cowdenbeath, in his catch of 6 was a fantastic Brown trout, which by his reckoning was well over 3 lbs, beautiful colours and had to be at least 2 years old as its two years since I last put in Brownies, this fish was safely returned to fight another fight, loads of other good days were had, a pleasure to see John J Hunter just a pity he fished on the one really foggy day the air pressure was back up, still its good to dream about SPRING, its coming slowly, the fish are all waiting, Ahh the thought of warm sunrays.
Need to enjoy a good days fishing then visit us @ the Goldenloch, fly fishing a field sport, john@goldenloch.co.uk or visit www.goldenloch.co.uk or our fb goldenlochfishing
