Well its been a really busy week this past week and the fishing generally is pretty good, but I must say that the cold front that has come in from the East has dropped the outside air temperature down some 5 degrees, that on a day average, strangely without a wind it hasn’t had that effect on the water, which is still hovering around 10 /11 degrees, so the outcome is fish are rising to hatching flies but are being uniquely fussy, are being very specific about what they are taking, now what has been working very well is very small black wet flies with tiny white wings and sometimes a red Diawl Bach, but even then we are talking small, its proper good sport fishing and with it being like this its producing some unique catches, some lads getting big numbers and others blanking, there are fish showing and rising all day hundreds of them, loads of Brown trout now showing there presence it has got to be unique that these trout now know when they are out of season, yesterday local Peter caught a near perfect gorgeous specimen about the 5lb mark, which he happily returned he was using a wet fly, a small black pennell fly which had a yellow tail as opposed to a white one, also catching on one of the other flies which was a dry emerger and these are pretty typical of what is working well just now, but isn’t it good that its gone this way, Sandy Drummond, Kingskettle another local guy also doing really well using small black wet flies and tiny wee buzzers has been having some great days fishing as has Eddie Henderson, Perth, regularly catching respectable numbers of fish, what is not so good is the guys coning with the lures and bigger stuff who aint getting even a knock, but for them they have the frustration of fish rising all around them, AH The JOY of Going FISHING.
