September-19th –Week 38-2016
Looks pretty much like the summer is over, hatches have changed a lot this last couple of weeks, a lot less flies on the surface, pretty sure bet is when the swallows and swifts are sitting on the wires, thinking about the long flight south, they know that the food source is drying up, however there are still some late hatches and a lot of good fishing to be had, however like some other years the fish seem to be very active late into the night and very early morning, Saturday 17th September saw a full clear sky Harvest Moon, at 2 am it was like daylight and the fish were alive and kicking obviously enjoying life without predators, they know when there going to be eaten, so whats the fishing been like, fantastic in the mornings and late evenings, the hard part is the bright sunny days, without the weed for cover the fish are running for dark and basically are burrowing into the mud or hiding where there is weed, the water is crammed with shrimp, snails, bloodworms, beetles, creepy crawlies and everything else that you find down there, the fish are in tip top condition, it just takes ability to catch them, anglers are reminded that if they are returning fish then barbless hooks MUST BE used, only barbed for first two fish which are killed then crush barbs, in the last week two anglers were found to be using barbed hooks for catch and release this is not acceptable, it is generally now accepted that after catching a few fish anglers move to another spot, it is very pleasing to see this is being adhered to, this winter stating soon we are going to be carrying out some extensive improvements to the physical structure of the loch and there will be a slight deepening of the water, fishing will be as normal but works will be ongoing, Eddie Henderson, Perth had a great day last week with several returned, as did Hamish Anderson, Maybole, John J Hunter and friends had an enjoyable few hours with everyone catching something, so even although we are heading into Autumn the fishing is still performing.
