June 13th –Week 24-2016
So the fishing has been very varied and I am sure it has been much the same elsewhere, with the best fishing at I would imagine places that have just stocked or stock every few days, why, its because the really warm spell that we recently have had, it has encouraged a massive and I mean a massive hatch of insects, flies, bloodworms, shrimps and zillions or gazillions of bloodworms, never before have we seen such a huge amount of feeding available for the trout, and when there is a rise it is awesome, some lads have witnessed hundreds of fish feeding and taking of the surface and when this happens it’s the most amazing spectacle ever, the loch just comes alive with wriggling, jumping, swirling, fish, birds swooping and the noise of splashing as fish fall back onto the water, trying to catch these fish is another matter and usually presents the angler with the problem of which fly to use Aaron Scott, Leslie and Greg Watson, also Leslie where here on such a night and it all happened at the far end of the loch, another angler being part of this experience was Bob Easton, Alloa, a recent convert from bait fishing, in his second year of fly fishing and never having been here before, his comment was that he had never seen fish behaving like this before and that he was gobsmacked that one minute he was wondering where the fish where and five minutes later they were trying to jump in his boat, why is the fishing very varied, because it’s the bits when the fish aren’t feeding on the surface that are hard, the bright sun and the east wind is pushing the fish down to the bottom and with so much feeding down there, well it’s a bit like going to a sweetie shop and everything is free as long as you eat it there and now, the really big upside is that the fish are in a fabulous condition and are really nice to eat.
