Mar 14th –Week 11-2016
Now trying to get it right especially when writing a report can sometimes be a tad difficult, today’s report is, I hope an accurate account of the last weeks fishing, Monday till Wednesday was good in fact for the beginning of March excellent, with highish air temperatures, good sunshine, the fishing was best mid day and fish were being caught at about around a foot under the surface, best flies were Black or Green and Blacks, wet flies weighted on a very slow retrieve, a fair bit of success for bloodworms, however lure small or large were not that successful, Thursday and Friday were both very similar, in that they were a lot colder which had dropped the fish in the water, and the opposite of the previous two days was the norm, large and small lures were working very well, some anglers were getting outstanding catches into double figures, the fish are in excellent condition and are giving an amazing account for themselves, again bloodworms were working very well but more from the bank than the boats, Now Saturday till mid afternoon was shocking, basically a cold East wind was across the water and very few fish were getting caught, with anglers using everything in there armouries’ catching fish just eluded some, one lad in particular, which is unfortunate but his boat partner had 2, now here is the rub at 3pm, after most had left, Andy Fraser Ladybank and another arrived, basically for a quick couple of hours fishing before his tea and it was all change, the wind just dropped and the sun came out, fish were rising everywhere and that was the real first rise this year, flat calm and fish were being caught everywhere, its at time like this after having anglers who fish all day catching nothing and then the opposite, all within a few hours, Sunday was a copy of Saturday but the fish weren’t rising as much in the late afternoon, however our first evening anglers for the year arrived and in a quickie session 3 hrs had 6 fish all returned, In summarising this, last weeks fishing was for this time of year pretty good, very cold conditions with a fair amount of wind, with fish that are starting to be interested, yet still slow and fussy, a good fly selection is necessary to catch a fish, Good fun.
