Goldenloch
Jan-04th–Week 01-2016
A good new year to one and all, another new beginning, how we do it here at the Goldenloch is, every new year we make the assumption that as of January 01 we start with the counter at Zero, so this week, hopefully today, sees the first load of fish arrive, like every other new year, we are hoping that the frost and ice will stay away, we have had a lot of wind and rain its not been too excessive, I have seen more that what we have had, but the outflow slice is running at about 90% constant, and that’s with all the control boards removed, the grids need checked everyday for trash and caught fish, however Bev my daughter and I had a lot of fun trying to remove a rather large fat silver eel from the secondary grid, most eels manage to escape by going through a hole that we cut in the top of the grid, this one was just to big, the eel was about 5ft in length and as thick as someone’s arm, problem was, as it was so thick getting a hold of it was difficult, due to it wanting to twist and curl up, also the weight was quite heavy on its recovery it very quickly scurried across the grass and back into the water, lately the fishing’s been hampered by the wind, and cold, what I will say is that, the fish are really deep down, most anglers fishing of late have caught in the afternoons, and from the bank, there has been a real lack of sunshine this last month or rather brightness, nothing to bring the fish up, or even make the fish want to feed, however there is surprisingly a huge amount of feeding in the water, whilst bailing out the boats and looking into the water you can see there is still a lot of beetles and larvae to be seen, and that’s what is really good about the water here at the Goldenloch, its shallow enough to encourage a massive amount of fly / insect life yet deep enough for the fish to stay well out of harms way when its cold, It is still challenging to go fishing and that’s what it should be, its all about prime fishing and a relaxing few hours, so see you sometime in this another year 2016
