goldenloch may-25th –week 18-2015
Well that’s been some week, but very pleasant, the arrival of a baby Grandson, all the excitement and suspense not knowing if it was a boy or a girl, Also our resident swans which seemed to be sitting on the nest forever, I had thought that the frosty mornings had done damage to the incubating eggs, hatched, we think 6 cygnets and all look well, My daughter Bev has got herself a pup, and instructs mum and I about how best to bring it up, Us after bring up numerous dogs in our life, the loch has billions of miniature tadpoles and I have never seen so many newts in my life and whilst looking in the water the huge abundance of Mayfly larvae can be found these horrible looking six legged nymphs are just like fillet steaks for the fish, so what about the fishing well we have been really busy and nearly everyone has caught fish, some lads catching loads of fish, right up until Saturday mid afternoon, then someone somewhere flicked a switch, (metaphorically speaking) the fish just disappeared, it picked up a bit later that night, Sunday morning saw it just as dour, and again it slowly got better as the day progressed, Saturday night when I switched on my computer, I saw what had happened as my little weather station had recorded a massive drop of nearly 0.9 atmosphere in a very short space of time, this would normally indicate a storm, however this time it was just a change, in wind direction and temperature and that’s what I would think caused the fish to stop feeding , other than that it was just one of those things, there were however some extremely rude people that said there were nae fish in the loch, and left, its amazing, that in this day and age how some people if they don’t get there 20+ fish on some strange unknown fly concoction, will when they are in a group, be so offensive, quoting other fisheries as better examples, however it would seem that nearly every fishery in Fife now gets its fish from the same supplier and to say that one fisheries fish are far superior to another’s is complete nonsense, we should all be grateful that we do have a supplier that takes his job very seriously, and produces pretty good excellent solid fish that are hard fighting and clean, long gone are the days of the black torpedoes, so a big up for Westmill, hope you can keep it going and to the lads who left, Your Loss.
