Goldenloch dec -01-, week 48, 2014
Its Christmas time again, oh boy how time flies, its just amazing that spring, summer, autumn and now winter have been, and how quick they passed, but the last 8 weeks I think have probably been the worst weather that I can remember, for wind, constant cold and wet days, my rain gauge, which I thought was pretty accurate went to me slightly crazy, but now I realise it was just having to reset itself due to being full, it made the fishing harder than it should have been, but catches have generally been considering, pretty good with anglers having to think and experiment a bit harder to catch fish, but that’s what it supposed to be like, but there has been the odd days of numerous fish caught, and also there are the odd chaps who seem to be having a particularly bad spell, not saying that Captain Kemp is having a bad time but fish at the moment seems to be off the menu, practise harder would be a bit of advice, everyone goes through a bad spell, with the buzzard population probably at its highest ever it is very noticeable that there is a complete dearth of small birds this year, for the first time in many years I note that the berry bushes all still carry their berries how unusual is that, also its just the 1st of December yet snow drops are starting and daffodils are trying to come through the ground, some people still don’t believe that we have a problem with global warming, over the last few years we have noticed that new stocked fish feed twice a day, they rise in the morning and in the early evening, this coincides with when they would be fed mechanically on the fish farms, however after a few weeks in the water they feed in the dark, walking down on a still night the noise of fish feeding is very obvious and with the new torches that have a very powerful beam they can be easily seen so next year more night fishing may be on the cards.
