Goldenloch nov -17-, week 46, 2014
Here at the Goldenloch we’ve had some rain in the past three weeks, in the last 35 years we have seen the overflow at its maximum once, that was after a fast snow melt about 15 years ago, bur recently it been at that level twice, the big stone normally prominently sticking above the water is long gone, so does that affect the fishing, well it does, both times the water got cloudy, briefly, it makes the fish go deep and just lie on the bottom, it clears pretty quick and soon the fish can be seen back up in the water but as the food chain is interrupted by all this new cold water the fish aren’t that bothered about eating, the bug life is good on the loch floor and there is an abundant supply of shrimp, bloodworms and snails, anglers reporting that what fish that are being caught are outstanding and fighting like demons, a few brownies being caught lately mostly from the boats and near the edges, with the ground / field absolutely saturated its just messy everywhere, the forecast is good though with a drier spell coming and milder weather, so hopefully we will see some activity by fish back on the loch, a big bonus on the loch is that it is now 100% clear and weed free, the carp have pretty much after one year cleared the grass weeds out and last week saw 2 being caught by green fritz flies, these fish have gone from 9 inches to 18 inches in 10 months and have proper bellies on them, I just wonder if or how they will survive the winter.
