Goldenloch nov -03-, week 44, 2014
Another rotten week, the whole point about going fishing is to enjoy it being able to go somewhere that is yours for the four or five hours that you are there, some people want to stay much longer and some just want a few hours whatever is your poison feel free, this last week however people coming here had there day spoilt by the weather, climate change is here and its not good the last week has seen a huge amount of rainfall, the temperature drop to zero and the warmest Halloween on record with a day temp of 18 and an evening of 21oC, however fish are being caught not huge numbers but just regular amounts, we stocked last Wednesday as we were expecting a few lads over the weekend, usually it takes about three days for the fish to settle, however they just went to ground, like the rest, just now for this time of year we have way to many fish in the water, with 30+ years experience we know that this will have a huge adverse affect in the loch, firstly there is only a finite amount of food during the winter months available to feed these fish, also a big head of fish will attract cormorants, and that just does my head in, but there are other factors, this is the time of year when anglers will expect to see fish with white fungus or spots on them, if you catch anything like that here please do kill, and put in the bin, we have not had any but I have noticed on pictures of fish caught elsewhere signs of this, we work a strict rule here at the Goldenloch and have since 1996 provided disinfectant baths and provided nets for anglers to use, please dip all nets and equipment that goes in the water, drogues’ fish finders etc, every fish caught here should be prime and we pride ourselves in that fact, fish that are handled and returned are the ones mostly susceptible, with some places having the same fish caught many time its inevitable that it happens, however most anglers are very good with their equipment and have to be applauded this is just a wee reminder, fishing here just now is good first thing and very good at the end of the day, as it turns really dark, that seems to be when the wind drops Evelyn Harry fishing with her son caught 6 using buzzers under an indicator in flat calm last night, with each fish around the 3lb mark, her son using lures had 2.
