Goldenloch oct -27-, week 43, 2014
Not a great week its been hard, for a start the weather has been absolutely shocking with gales and loads of rain, but it was the cold I think that has affected the fishing the most, the 7 days of the last week have seen massive variations in the temperature starting last Sunday which was wet but not overly cold about 10 c and then Monday and Tuesday were very windy Gale force but much warmer about 12 / 14 c however on Wednesday it dropped to 4 c and at night with the wind from the East, the next few days saw temperatures vary between 6 and 10 with the wind mostly from the NE, so what does this do for the fishing well it seems that the fish are only tugging flies just now anglers are catching but nothing like the numbers of previous weeks, most nearly everyone fishing here left with a couple and plenty offers, what is happening is the fish are nibbling at the flies as if they are just having a taste, this is why some anglers are resorting to using these snakes lures, which can be readily bought anywhere, as the hook is at the tail end then obviously the fish will bite the hook when nibbling the tail, what we have here is a lure that is unusual in that it can meet the regulations 15/16th and 5/8th , but it can be set up with double hooks, which is not allowed, however it is not, nor does it resemble an artificial fly hence my reason for not allowing same, but I’ve been lead to believe that other fisheries are allowing it to be used, Yesterday Sunday was a strange day extremely gusty but down at the loch the shore side was well sheltered with a few anglers out and the fish driven to the shore by the gusty winds some good fishing was had, Martin Nicol, Perth out quite a few times this week had another two, again returned, Martin only fishes to catch a couple and then leaves, Eddie Henderson, Perth had 2 losing a few which was in part due mostly to the wind, Brian Henderson, Dundee had 7 all returned with 2 over 5lbs and 3 brown trout all caught on buzzers, Don Stewart Glasgow fishing with John Grey, Auchtermuchty 15 between them on various traditional flies, so even although the weather was atrocious the sport has been superb.
