Goldenloch oct -20-, week 42, 2014
Its October 20th and the weather today is supposed to be atrocious due mostly to the now ex hurricane instead its positively mild with fish rising and fish being caught and yesterday was the same with forecasters predicting almost biblical downpours we had a beautiful day with a slight breeze coming from the south west, Tom Anderson fishing with his two buddies caught and released 14 between them with 4 brown trout in that package, also fishing in remembrance of their father was brother and sister Gail and Hamish McGowan, their dad who was from St Andrews used to be a regular and always fished dry flies even in winter between them using their dads old stuff had 4, not bad considering the last time they fished was 20 years ago and it was on the Goldenloch on a beautiful sunny night, comments were that the place hasn’t really changed that much, if anything it was a lot bigger than they remembered and equally as peaceful, the fishing is good just now all weeds are cleared and the water is crystal, visibility is 100% , fish quality is outstanding with every fish being caught this year completely fungus free, a problem associated with to much Catch and Release, there is currently a huge amount of feeding in the water we do not have fry that is a problem but the fish are feeding close in mostly on shrimp and beetles, on examination stomachs are still carrying a load of buzzers and snails so fish this past week would seem to have been feeding slightly deeper, Snakes are not recognised here as a fly and will not be permitted, however with a lot of people only able to catch using lures most other lures are acceptable but anything with a double hook is not.
