Goldenloch aug -04-, week 30, 2014
Its now August and the recent hot spell, I would imagine wont be repeated again this year, basically the temperature rose 5 degrees in four days, without wind nor clouds and the fish went into some kind of heat shock, we were about to suspend Catch and Release when they did it themselves by just disappearing into the depths, however its good to see all are back up fighting again. after the recent cool windy days, our temperature dropped 4 degrees which is quite amazing for this time of year but actually this could trigger the start of autumn, its been seen before, the weather turning now in the middle of this month and us having a lot of wet weather, but in all the weather turmoil the fishing has sprung into gear again and some very respectable catches have been had, the Khats Whiskers had there annual fishing adventure with a camping day and night including the mandatory camp fire, now albeit a tad wet for a while, I reckon everyone bar one had some excellent fishing, a few making the early morning 5am slot, but the blanker didn’t, so without any comments left we can only assume all was goof, this year for us has got to be the year of the damsel and with so many flying about it is fascinating to see the fish taking these flies from the nymph as it makes its way out the water, recently there has been a fair bit of activity in the weeds around the loch edges and it is the fish attacking these damsel nymphs also one day there was in an area in the loch where we have growing grass weeds a flurry of fish activity and several fish were scrapping for what we could only assume was a damsel fly hatch, Jimmy Henderson Irvine was fishing with his buddy and changed to a damsel fly and both had a bumper time, Mr Ramage, Cupar has been doing very well even through the hot spell with at least 3 or 4 per visit and Martin Nicol, Perth equally as good everthing from the bank and as Martin only ever fishes with dry flies he has done well, Eddie Henderson, Perth, had 6 last week using small wets fishing very slow, so its all been really good last night saw a rise about 10pm and the water coming alive, nice to see after the hot weather.
