Goldenloch june -02-, week 21, 2014
It’s a very mixed strange week to write about, mostly caused by the wind, air pressure and temperature changing, however the amount they varied was very small, but the reaction of what the fish were doing was quite dramatic, the air pressure was the thing that changed the most between Sunday 25th May and yesterday 1st June, we had 6 days when the pressure moved in opposite directions 3 times, this was coupled with a breeze that was equally as changeable, basically occasionally stopping the fish from rising, trout do not like changing wind or air pressure, fish that are settled in a water and have plenty of grub, they react to hatching flies, ( a Rise ) by following the buzzers to the surface, there is competition between the birds and the trout as to who gets to them first, this week has seen very little bird life, or rather birds feeding over the water, that’s all due to the lack of hatchings, Freshly stocking new trout basically stirs up the existing fish, but they also encourages fish to rise because of a few factors that they bring with them, firstly these stockies forage on the bottom with their snouts looking for grub, stirring up the blood worms etc causing artificial hatchings, secondly they are on the surface looking for pellets, as they are used to automatic feeders coming on twice a day to throw in pellets, so as these stockies settle into a new home it takes them a few days to forget about these things, thirdly it is not uncommon that these new trout don’t get on with the indigenous trout and are hunted by them this makes them come to the surface and are easy prey, mostly due to the fact that they are hungry and are looking for pellets, but taking all this aside it is good anglers that can catch fish in all situations, and definitely the fish that have been caught this week have been good fighting trout, Eddie Henderson, Perth had 6 all returned using a Brown Wulff, Allan Montgomery, Perth 3 using a sun burst cat, W Patterson Glenrothes 2 on a damsel, C Bowie having a busy weeks fishing, used hoppers and varying dries 2 fish, and the Dow boys hard from their successful efforts on the World Championship Cobble Race at Newburgh, had 2 each to go with their successful second place, well done boys, Bell Baxter High School, had 19 pupils here, learning to fish, they had a most enjoyable time, so all in all, its been a very good week but one if conditions had been better would have seen a lot more fish caught.
