Goldenloch may -05-, week 17, 2014
Well its now May, and thank goodness, at last things seem to be normal, here is an invitation for some, if you’ve been an angler / fisher in the past and you want to give it a go again, feel free to come on up, just now the fish are moving about freely there are absolutely loads to catch, there are Swallows Swifts, Ospreys to watch, buzzers, a pair of nesting kestrels’, woodpecker you name it for some reason this year they all about, if you don’t have equipment just ask we will sort you out, in the water just now apart from our usual first class Rainbows, we have a few hundred brown trout that were put in the loch in early March, we also have a couple of hundred Blue trout that range from a Kilo (2.2lbs ) to 3 Kilos (6lbs), this last week has seen three people achieve there personal bests for fish caught, one gent even complained that he was catching to many brown trout and all because he was using dry flies and he was after a couple of nice rainbows, I am trying to study weather patterns and the effects on fishing and fish being caught, using diaries and local knowledge and the internet, gathering as much information as possible and the past two weeks was a classic lull in fish behaviour, till April 18th everything was on track and the water temperature was slowly rising, then we had a east breeze with a cold misty har and the fishing just switched off, this weather lasting for 10 days off and on and caused a lot of anxiety for anglers, but now it seems to be over and we are back on track for some nice weather, the cause of the change was the jet stream but what caused the fish to switch off still remains a mystery, fish being caught still had loads of nymphs in their gullets and mouths so they were still eating, but they were not coming to the surface so it must just be that the air pressure is enough to keep them that little bit lower in the water, now that it has changed again the fish are back on up to the surface, Happy Days.
