Goldenloch december 30, the last week 2013
This is it the last week of 2013, and what a year its been, very varied, but very interesting, the low water level due to the hot weather and our very big mistake in cutting the weeds and not shifting them immediately, as we believed that we were going to get a big wind that would have blown them off to one side for easy removal was a huge mistake, the wind never came, all that happened was we produced thousands of cuttings which then took root and multiplied, without any chemical weed control its hard to keep the weeds down, we have just introduced for 2014 Chinese grass eating carp, this as a experiment in how to go about a problem that will soon affect many more fisheries as the chemical ban really takes effect, we haven’t used any chemical weed control for a few years now, but interestingly was the fact that for a lot of anglers was the ability to catch fish using dry flies increased dramatically and for some superb fishing was achieved, this past year has seen more compliments than objections about the fishing and that was probably a first, School fishing days have been well attended but its getting increasingly more difficult to provide instructors that are willing to give up their time for free, this past year we have had over 150 youngsters from Eleven schools and given away to many budding anglers, flies, rods, reels and equipment that has been handed in to us by yourselves, anglers who had outgrown or replaced their old stuff, all has gone and none remains, we stopped doing the groupon tickets last December as even although it increased the numbers coming fishing that year, mostly the people were only coming for a one and only trip, it did produce a few who have been coming fishing and they have turned out to be good anglers and friends, so what’s next, well this past week has been very cold a few fish have been caught mostly really close into the banking the water outlet is at absolute capacity and the forecast is for more rain, so at the moment it’s the complete opposite of July when it was hot and dry with no water running out, I think I preferred July anyway wishing everyone a good new year and looking forward to 2014 as we say A GUID NEW YEAR TI ONE AN ALL, LANG MAY YER LUM REEK.
