Goldenloch october 14 week 39
The last three or four days here at the Goldenloch have been very cold, but at least up until today they were dry, this morning I wouldn’t exactly say it was raining but its pretty dismal, wet and dreary, the fishing has been very quite, yet for most of those coming its been very rewarding, Saturday was a hard day with a cold East Wind which by evening had blown over and with a warmer front moving in, we went down to the water for a walk and fish were everywhere, it seems that they are feeding just under or of the surface with plenty of flies still hatching its good, our weed problem is vanishing pretty quick now with the weed more or less gone it now lies on the bottom were it should decompose to nothing, so what are we doing about it for next year so as not to have the same problem well grass eating carp are being introduced, but more importantly we are going to try stopping the water at the overflow, after the winter rains, sometime next May, this so as to retain as much water in the loch as possible as we feel that this past season we lost so much water in April – May, as it stopped raining in April last year with a period of intense sunshine for most of May and June it just encouraged the weeds to grow and also the water level to drop, with a lot of the weeds seeing sunshine for the first time they just multiplied, anyway that’s next year, winter stocking with fish, last week saw a load go in of 1.75lb rainbows, this should be good till December as well as our carry over stock. Hamish Arthur and his girlfriend were here from Edinburgh, Hamish caught and released what he believes was the finest rainbow he has ever caught, with a massive tail and very bold colours the fish took a size 14 yellow buzzer on a static line, comment was that this 7lb ish trout just about pulled the rod out of his grip as it took the fly, well chuffed with his catch it was released for someone else to catch another day.
