Goldenloch september 09 week 34
At the Golden loch we like other fisheries this year are experiencing probably one of our hardest seasons for a long time the water level is lower than its ever been and the weeds which normally are well and truly deep down can for the first time in there life see daylight and are enjoying photosynthesising, its an ongoing battle to keep them reasonably cut and under control, however we have been rewarded by probably some of the best fishing ever, with dry flies being the no 1 way to catch fish, that was what it was like when the Goldenloch first opened to the public way back in 1985, lures like budgies and yellow dancers did not exist, anglers had fibreglass and cane rods, it was very civilised then and anglers appreciated what was on offer, they were polite and tidy, its all about pleasure and enjoying a days fishing and its not about catching 12 trout in 4 hours as some seem to now think, just recently I had a gent and his friend arrive, on his arrival he was asked how he got on the previous week as I knew he and his friend had caught several fish to which he replied “ OK I suppose but we didn’t get as many as we had offers off ”??? so I asked him how many he had caught, and what he was using, to which he evaded answering by being smarmy, so was asked him again “12” and “10” and then he went on to complain about everything else under the sun, so I asked why he had come back, to which he then went on about the weeds and then I got a strange look from him as he was also told that he was no longer welcome here, to go else where, as there are currently plenty places in Fife to fish, in all the years we have looked after the Goldenloch we have had thousands of happy clients, yes it may be that fishing this year is strained and difficult, but we do appreciate anglers continued support, there are masses of fish they are hard to catch sometimes, we go out of our way to try and let people enjoy fishing, this guy may think I have an attitude problem but be assured its nice to get a compliment or at least someone appreciate what we do. OH I do like a good rant but when you own run a fishery you are proud of it and when people insult what you do its really annoying .
