Goldenloch july 29 week 28
At last rain and some cooler weather, its very welcome and although its not really that much its better than nothing, the fishing remains pretty static, although we are not all that busy for those fishing its been really good today Sunday, one had 8 his partner 5, another boat 6 and 4, couple of guys on the bank had 3 each everyone had lost a few, yea we still have a bit of weed but for the guys fishing today everyone was in agreement that the fight was outstanding all caught using dry flies or rather small midge types whether they be dry or wets, everyone was very happy, the weeds are mostly at the far side and are a result of previous years cuttings growing if the water level wasn’t so low none of this would be a problem however we are still getting the guys here that think its chuck in a lure and strip it fast sometimes they catch something but mostly they get annoyed and after pulling in a heap of weed become very rude and leave, it is annoying I must admit but it good to see the real anglers that have the right gear getting the upper hand and really enjoying the sport Martin Nicol, Perth here with his friend Chris had a few with Chris who only fishes occasionally catching 2 using some small wet flies, this last week saw a lot of sunshine and everyone fishing were rewarded with fish feeding and moving on the surface, one of the few benefits of having the weed this year, I am not to sure but I think everyone that was here caught at least two, with plenty of offers, one young lad here on a beginner course and never having fished before caught as his first, the fish was a whopper which he kindly put back, standing on the jetty, he was still practising his casting and his fly which was a rather large gold headed orange blob so he could see and get distance with it, when the fish struck, all he could do was watch as the fly disappeared from view and then luckily as his line went taught he tugged his rod and it all happened, for the next few minutes he was like a lad possessed with a few screams and wondering what to do, luckily all this fish wanted to do was jump out the water, he eventually managed to pull it in Tommy Smart assisted in netting and realising what he estimated was a six pounder, well done Master Arthur who now is amazed at how far a rod can bend without breaking, personally I was more amazed at who well his knots held out.
