Goldenloch june 24 / 2013 week 23
FLY FISHING, is it all about having a bit of fun? So what is it about fishing, is it the thrill of the catch? Is it getting the right fly when all others fail? Is it just being out in the open beside nature? Is it catching a dozen fish proving to yourself you’re still the best! and everyone that’s watching isn’t or is it getting that big elusive fish?, WHAT IS IT, could it be its your time to relax and just enjoy a bit of privacy and something to look forward too all week, so what does it for you, this week and also the past few weeks, here at the Goldenloch we have had steady but poor turn out of anglers, I would say only the real genuine enthusiasts have been here, it may be it’s the economy, its certainly not the weather, however the fishing has probably been better than its been for many years, we have rising fish nearly all day, we have loads being caught on dry and wet flies, we have one side of the loch completely free of weed and the other side partial weed, which I may hasten to add is where the fish are and for those not stripping lures is absolutely brilliant fishing, whether it be wets or dries, WE probably need to change our ways and what we offer here, as it seems that there are only a few anglers left that want to fish for sport and enjoy what I would describe as proper fly fishing, but there is a downside to changing and it will happen overpopulating waters with fish in the new globally warmer weather will encourage the spread of arugulas and with that comes the threat of fisheries closing, or if they don’t close then anglers will be fishing for scabby emaciated wellies, which is what happens to rainbows that become infected, but hey there’s plenty more places that can be quickly turned into a place to fish, or there’s big really big waters that anglers can go to and catch fish (not), some fisheries are now positively encouraging anglers to keep returning trout back to the water, as the economy of doing this sounds really good, in that the fishery offers cheaper fishing as it not having to restock, that’s OK till until you get a fungal disease in the water and then anglers aren’t so keen to fish there anymore, so what is it that floats your boat let us know so we can do something about it.
