Goldenloch may 13/ 2013 week 17
Since the middle of the week at the Goldenloch the outside air temperature has risen about 8 or 9 degrees and as we had predicted the benefit to the fishing was enormous with anglers catching fish pretty easy, up until Wednesday the amount of fish being caught was approx 1 or 2 per angler, however now it would be fair to say that number has trebled and in some cases even more, Friday saw the real start with two regular elderly gents getting 6 each and were later joined by Bob Bruce, Ladybank and Andy Fraser Ladybank, Bob fishing with a new rod, found his casting greatly improved, yet not quite managing to catch as many as Andy, had a respectable half dozen decent sized trout, Saturday and Sunday were both quiet days as the forecasters had again predicted high winds which never materialized, but fishing were a couple of young lads 14 yr olds who both did exceptionally well, getting 3 or 4 fish each, Sunday night saw a flat calm over the loch about 8pm, and probably the first real rise with hundreds of fish feeding on the flies hatching, nice to see, On Sunday morning we were again treated to yet another osprey fight, this time it was between an older bird and what looked like a very hungry young bird, with the older bird getting a large fish and then unable to take off with it, made its way to the bank eventually, where it was then attacked by the other bird, a 3 of 4 minute fight ensued with the older bird refusing to let go the fish, eventually forcing the young bird to take to flight, the old bird then started to rip up its fish the young bird attacked again, this time with a posse of crows in attendance, it is all very dramatic and is accompanied with a lot of screeching and screaming, you have to ask the question why is it that we like to support this type of wildlife, it certainly is not enjoyable to watch, somewhere yesterday there is a young osprey pretty badly hurt and in pain and will probably die either to its injuries or starvation, is that what we want to see. I have also recently noticed that either its is hawks or buzzards that are swooping down on smaller birds in an effort to catch them perhaps this cold spring has made a real shortage of food and that they are struggling to survive.
