Goldenloch march 04 / 2013 week 08
At the Goldenloch the past seven days have been very cold with ice covering most of the loch for the first four days, however as each day awoke the sun broke through and warmed the water allowing the ice to melt and for the fish to start to move, Monday and Tuesday seemed to be the best with fish getting caught in the late afternoons, however the fish were still well down and only getting caught on Black / green or black flies, Wednesday and Thursday were a repeat of Monday and Tuesday, however the sun was not as warm and correspondingly it was much later in the day that the fish were showing on the loch surface, about 4pm more or less at dusk, Hamish Hamilton, Coatbridge had 2 for 6lbs using a tadpole, both caught within minutes of each other from the boat jetty, as darkness fell on Thursday, Friday was bitter cold and flat calm and saw a couple of brave lads get a few but the cold spoils the day, we woke to a bright brisk morning on Saturday which looked so full of promise, but there was not a breath of wind and even with the bright sunshine the fish just stayed hidden so disappointing when there are anglers desperate to catch fish, it was really cold which was kind of hidden by the sun being out and as soon as the sun went away people felt extremely cold and disappointed, however it will get better and it only needs some heat to make it happen, Sunday was a bit of a repeat of the previous day however it did have the bonus that about 4pm there were fish rising over most of the water, the forecast for the next week or so is rising temperatures’ and hopefully that will start the beginning of spring.
