Goldenloch february 04 / 2013 week 05
That was a very quick, cold January, interestingly was the fact that a lot of the visiting anglers all had nice shinny new equipment, this past weekend wasn’t to bad weather wise, with several fish getting caught, interestingly was that nearly everyone commenting on the fight they had been getting, that is, mind you for all those that caught fish, yesterday, Sunday saw a lad pull a blank, not that he was doing anything wrong, it was just not his day, mind you his boat mate was quite happy, but that’s what fishing can be like at this time of year, with the water still very cold, remember its only a week ago it was covered with ice and snow, and that these fish are cold blooded, they need a little heat enticement to get them going, it doesn’t take much, just a ray of sunshine or a change in the surface air temperature, this is enough to just even lift their body temperature a fraction of a degree, without it most of the fish are just going to stay down on the loch floor, in a huddle or a shoal buried into the loch floor mud a few weeks ago whilst I was getting my new weather station set up, we took a thermometer reading in the loch of the water and the loch bottom which gave a very surprising result, the water in the top region and by that I mean approx 6 inches was, from an average of 3 attempts 5 degrees, at approx 3 feet it was the same 5 degrees, however the reading from the loch floor was 9 degrees and we only managed one reading, as we lost the thermometer, due to someone letting go of the cord that was attached to it, so someday if any one catches on their hook a vintage brass thermometer on a nylon chord there is a £20 reward to be claimed, Today Monday the 4th February we have a beautiful clear blue sky, nice warm day, light breeze and 2 f———- cormorants.
