Goldenloch december 24 / 2012 week 52
Well we survived, I really don’t know how, another year gone by, another Christmas is here, so heres wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, This past year has got to be the one to remember and even this past week has been outrageous, you really want to see the amount of water that is in the loch, I have never ever seen so mush water everywhere, Frank Turpie arrived to fish yesterday nice to see him again, and although it wasn’t raining when he arrived, every boat was completely full, thank goodness they were out of the water, the jetties are all submerged by a few inches and the bank is so soggy, there is water running everywhere, but the sun was shining and he was just happy to be outside, so who was I to dampen his spirit, id let the loch to that, so I went to pump out the boats now electricity and water just don’t mix and somewhere there was a short, so no pumps working and whilst I was trying to establish the cause and fix it, Mr. Turpie passed me all togged up in his fishing gear away to fish, so whilst I was busy and not paying much attention to him I eventually got the boats pumped out only to spot him into what I thought was a fish, only to see it take to its wings and fly well about ten feet near vertical till the line went tight and then crash back into the water, basically it was a mallard duck, which had gone for his yellow dancer, the fight lasted for a few minutes till the fly straightened its hook and then came out, only for the duck to fly away pretty fast however whilst this battle was happening Frank had stepped of the edge of the submerged jetty and into the loch and although not deep was up to his thighs and well his boots socks legs etc were well soggen, so we retired to the hut for a laugh, end of day, it would have been good to have caught a fish but to say he lost a duck is pretty good.
