Goldenloch december 17 / 2012 week 51
It must be pretty close to being fishable, so when I went down this morning and did my usual chucking a stone onto the water/ice, I expected it to go through the ice, however it gave the same old resounding ring as it bounced over the surface, the cormorants are back and circling round and round looking or waiting for a bit of clear water, the five signets have either flown away or been eaten by our family of young foxes who I may hasten to add have not been around for a day or two, the two adult swans have managed to keep an area free from ice about the size of a tennis court and the loch generally looks pretty desolate but I reckon that’s down to the fact that the outside air temperature is not really cold, its just very damp and makes everything feel a bit cold and miserable. Please remember if you are getting new fishing gear for your Christmas then we would really appreciate some of your old stuff, what is needed is flies, loads of flies, lines, especially floating lines, reels, old rods they don’t have to be perfect, I know someone who can fix both reels and rods, nets, jackets, trousers, anything to do with fishing, we have this year given to many youngsters, our made up kits that would have enabled them to go fishing, these are school kids without parents or anyone to take them fishing and I am aware of a few of these lads have taken up the sport, only recently we had a lad visit who has now left school lives in Berwick and fishes at the Tweeddale Fishery, Fly Fishing is for Fun and given the chance it is for everyone, Schools have now with the new curriculums got to let youngsters’ try different sports and not everyone wants to be a shot putt or a 100m runner some just want peace and quiet and that’s where we can help, but we need your help as well.
