Its been really cold these last few days and its had a strange effect on the fishing the fish have we think started to feed for the winter, the cold has definitely put them down to a much lower depth 3 and 4 ft, anglers are now using slow sinking lines or floating lines with sinking tips, catches have been good especially on Saturday when everyone fishing caught at least 3 or 4, a couple of beginners here on a learn to fish course had a particularly good day with a lot of fun being had and another two new converts to the sport, we have now in this our first year done over 270 learn to fish courses, with many taking up fishing as a sport / hobby, these courses that we run are a very basic opportunity for a complete novices to come and try fly fishing as a sport, we are hoping to make this opportunity more available next year in the form of a Fly Fishing Experience Course and it will be again targeted at the complete novice, however we will also again be getting in touch with most if not all of the schools in Fife and offer the loch out to them on the basis that they can use our facilities to try and introduce youngsters into the sport, we have done this before and in the past 8 years or so have catered for many school groups mostly at no charge to them a days fishing, We would like to ask you our anglers for some support in what we are doing and what we ask is that you would consider looking at your tackle or fly collections anything that you deem to be surplus or needing replaced that you hand it in to us and we will make good use out of it, We did this before and have given away to some number of kids rods, reels flies nets etc, these were youngsters that did not have a dad that fished and I would like to think that many of them are still fishing, its coming up to Christmas and many of you will be getting new kit, what I ask for is put your old stuff to a good use, especially useful would be flies, this year alone we have given away to beginners an untold amount of flies and it would seem to me that many of you guys that tie your own are looking at some long nights now that the clocks have changed and the forecast for November is to be Baltic we need your oldies or surplus flies, have a think about it I am sure many have been here whilst we have had school groups its got to be worth it
