Goldenloch september 23 / 2012 week 39
It been a colder week at the Goldenloch, much more than we expected for this time of year, with the weather forecast due to get a lot worse we really don’t know what to expect in the forthcoming few weeks, however the fishing this last week has been pretty good, with some people having there best days fishing ever, beginners have also had it really good with some just born naturals, John Hampden, Glasgow brought his friend Jennifer to learn to fish, he said he had fished a few times before and that he didn’t want a lesson, but he had never fished with more than one fly, so we helped set him up with two fly cast, a yellow dancer goldhead on point and a olive damsel, this mostly just for him to practice with, while Jennifer was getting some casting instruction, he went further along the bank, his first cast was a bit of a mess and he then after sorting himself out went onto a jetty, where he had a second cast which looked pretty reasonable, it must have been as a fish took the damsel, and whilst it was giving a good fight, another even larger fish took the yellow dancer, the ensuing battle then commenced and John then informed all who had gathered to watch that this was his first ever fish that he had caught, and it was now a double, without a net and with a huge bit of luck we backed him of the jetty onto the grass and without the jetty supports to worry about managed to get both of the fish up onto the grass, not bad for a beginner, so as to not be outdone Jennifer caught and landed a 2.5lb rainbow, this time using a net. Saturday saw quite a few more beginners here for lessons and one of them, a young lady, amused all on the loch with her very descriptive comments as her first ever catch, which was lost due to her knot failure, she had changed her fly to one that an angler given her which he said was a demon fly to catch fish with, she then went out in boat with her boyfriend, her first cast with this new fly resulted in the outburst, her day wasn’t spoilt however with another fish in the bag and the boyfriend returning his to fight another day or was it another fish lost.
