Goldenloch april 23 / 2012 week 17
Fishing at the Goldenloch like many other places depends so much on the weather and the fish as we know, do not like change, they like stability, for example if every day was windy, then the fishing would settle down and the fish would be getting caught using one particular method or fly type, but the weather in the last two weeks has been very very changeable, Saturday past we woke up to a complete flat calm, and bright sunshine by 10am it was dull and breezy, by mid afternoon we had horrendous rain and wind and in the evening it was pleasant and mild, when did the fish get caught it was in the evening about 7pm, that’s when there was a decent rise, George Duff, Buckhaven, returned 6 in the morning, S Hutchison, Ladybank, had a few and 2 for 5lbs and B Hutchison, Cupar, 2 for 6lbs, early morning about 9, Davy Cross, Anstruther first time visiting had 4 in four cast when he arrived and then had nothing till he was leaving when he caught 1, with his last cast from the boat jetty, Connor Izatt, one of our Groupon complete beginners caught his first fish, which he then landed successfully, Alec Millar, Cupar, had a great day with a few returned and 2 in the bag for 5lbs, most people in this last week have been catching using Diawl Bachs, we have had a bit of a problem with blanket weed, what happened was that the bright sun of three weeks ago, encouraged a massive growth spurt, but with daily removal ongoing, it will soon all be removed, the water however is slightly coloured, due mostly in parts to us disturbing the loch floor, but also due to the heavy rain that is bringing all the crap in from the surrounding fields, the far end of the loch is much clearer and free from this weed problem, however we have at least 4 or 5 ospreys visiting daily, they are using the far end of the loch to catch their food, on Sunday afternoon whilst driving home I came upon an Osprey sitting in the middle of the road ripping up a fish, yep, no camera.
