Goldenloch september 05 / 2011-09-05
It is really good fishing this week at the Goldenloch, We have had loads of cold rain in the last two or three weeks, 3 or 4 cool days and nights, and a couple of really windy days, all of which has seen the water temperature drop to 12 degrees, the effect on the fish is that they have become much more active and are starting the winter hunting for food, helping them to build up their reserves, the weeds scattered throughout the loch have now almost all died off and any problems anglers had in not being able to catch, due to weed has now gone, water clarity is near perfect, plenty fish in the water, so all in all just the perfect recipe, to bake a cake, so to speak, given these conditions some have done really well this past week, Kieran Cassie, Cardenden, first time fly fishing, had 2 for 4.5lbs using a yellow dancer and his dad had 8 using a hares ear, all returned, Don Stewart, Glasgow, had 10, fishing with John Gray, Auchtermuchty, who also had 10, Rab Grierson and J Hennan, both from Methil, had their usual good day, with many returned, and 4 for 10lbs, Tam Brown Newburgh, who started fishing only a couple of months ago, is now catching fish, he is using his own home tied flies which gives him a real buzz, Allan Burke, Coaltown of Balgonie, had a strange day on Wednesday, 3 hours fishing with only one offer, suddenly ended up with 2 for 4lbs, and 9 returned, he was using a red diawl bach and an ace of spades, Alex Millar, Cupar who really enjoys his fishing specially at night had 3 for 7lbs, using dry flies, Jim Gourley, Coaltown of Balgonie, a long time fisher at the Goldenloch, whilst cleaning his fish found in the stomach of one, a mouse, over the years I have heard anglers discuss strange things being found in rainbow trout and it is well known that they will scavenge anything but this is a first time I have heard this
