Goldenloch july -25-11
This last week at the Goldenloch saw the water level rise 4 to 6 inches, and the temperature drop in the water by 4 degrees in 3 days, the effect is that the fish have just dropped to the bottom, coupled with two really bright days being Saturday and Sunday, both days with hardly a breath of wind and Saturday night saw a huge temperature drop by 5 degrees, I have installed a barometer in the lodge and interestingly the reading is low and on looking up the internet on fishing and barometers it says when the pressure is low the bite is off, we have a old fashioned and much more sophisticated one in the house and for some time now I have been watching the performance of the fishing and the readings on the barometer and there is definitely a connection, However on Friday a father with his young son and daughter Mr Mason, came for a visit just to give them a shot at fly fishing and after a short while the young lad hooked and landed a cracking 3lb rainbow using a sedge, Saturday night saw several lads struggle, catching perhaps 1 each, but no one went up to the far end as I had suggested, Mr and Mrs R G Dick, Kinglassie, taking my advice had a ball and caught 3 returned 3 and lost a few, having had a real good time, the fishing is good next to the tall weeds, but anglers are all convinced that the fish are lying in the deep hole, maybe they are but at this moment they aren’t taking anything, Sunday afternoon saw Mr J Ferguson, Lincoln arrive and catch 14 on the brightest of days using green peters and bibio hoppers, what was more interesting is that he caught all from the bank at the far end using a very small light travelling rod and only cast occasionally when he thought there was something moving on a flat calm, absolutely fantastic to watch, a load of mixed size is due this week with a reasonable amount in the 4 lb size, heavier than we normally stock.
