Goldenloch july -18-11
Its been a brilliant week at the Goldenloch, mostly due to the nice comfortable settled weather, its pleasant first thing in the mornings with the fish rising, they are pretty easily caught up until around eleven, then due to the bright days that we have been having, the fish move into the permanent weed beds or the rushes at the far end of the loch, with the loch virtually free from weed at the moment and the water crystal clear, the fishing is absolutely superb and nearly everything being caught, is getting caught on dry flies, some guys however just cant give up their lures and to day for example one gent fished all day using a variety of gold headed lures and caught 2, while Messer’s Hennan and Grierson, actually had to stop and have a rest from catching fish, this pair who just enjoy their fishing, OK they sat in the one spot all day but we could hear them at the house as it was a beautiful calm day, they were just having a ball, afternoons and early evenings are a bit sticky, but as the evening gets darker the fish become a lot more active, definitely now for the moment however the best fishing is dry flies and people that have the right flies and techniques are probably having the best fishing ever, the head of fish in the loch this year is very high due mostly to the lack of angler numbers and the previous 3 or 4 weeks being particularly tricky, but now it has all changed and the fish are feeding quite actively, Heavy rain for the past few evenings has also probably cooled the water down quite a bit so should keep any algae development at bay, but thankfully none is showing at the moment.
