Goldenloch may -02-11
Fishing at the Goldenloch this last week has given some lads there best fishing ever and some others a really hard time, very much its been a bit dependant on what the weather has done or doing, but also in what type of flies were being used, for those lads with a bigger and better selection of flies and decent lines its been them that have reaped the benefits, for the last 3 or 4 days the wind has come from the East and its never a good time to fish when that happens, however it wasn’t a particularly strong wind, nor was it too cold, and although it had a bit of an effect on the fish, it tended to make them lie deeper in the water, and also in groups in certain places, every day saw fish being caught very early and quite easily by whoever was first on the water and I am talking from 7am till about 9am, then as the bright sun rose, the fish would just go deeper, and deeper, coupled with the East wind / breeze the fish just would lie on the bottom, catching fish then became dependant on heavy clouds moving over, spells when the wind would disappear for reasonably long periods, flies being used to great success was Green Peters and Green / Black Diawl Bachs, several lads also found that for the first time ever they were catching fish on Montana’s and only that fly was working, every day however, has an evening and that’s definitely been when the fishing has been at its best, most days in the last few weeks has seen the wind completely die away, leaving very calm placid conditions, because of the coldish days there has not really been an evening hatch yet, but every night something happens between 7pm and 9pm and there are fish rising everywhere, Don Stewart, Glasgow fishing small nymphs caught 8 on Saturday night making his trip very worthwhile, Don enjoys his fishing and commented that the evening sport is best.
