Goldenloch february -28-11
Fishing at the Goldenloch this last week has been a bit strange, but don’t get me wrong, everyone said they have had a brilliant day, its just that the fishing two weeks ago compared to now, was relatively normal and straightforward, but the last seven days we have seen some really cold days, warm days with intermittent cold surface breezes, and a bitter cold day on Sunday with a wind coming out of the North, extremely heavy rainfall on at least two occasions and frost, so what about the fishing, well for some its been a nightmare, Allan Gibson, Bridge of Earn, has had 3 blanks, Martin Nicol, Perth, I think had two, but many other lads have had a great days fishing, however it is still February and last year at this time we were just coming out of a really long spell of cold frosty weather and a lot of ice, most mornings cormorants are here, but they can get and do get, a bit of a sudden fright, then the fishing starts of really good, (cant believe the powers at bay put a protection order on such a scabby bird that just kills and wastes fish ) if for some reason they get onto the water then the fish get frightened and it takes about an hour or so for them to get over it, after that it seems that the bank fishing is best till about 11 or 12 then it is definitely better on a boat till say 4 and then the fish come back to the bank, the feeding in the loch is particularly high for some reason this year and the fish seem to be in pretty good condition, it always amazes me how much feeding there is in the water at this time of year as the water feels so cold but these little bugs are cold blooded anyway so don’t feel the cold, Friday past saw a load of fish put in, and another coming this week so the stocking levels this year have started higher than normal, hopefully with some warmer weather on the way anglers will be rewarded with some early season good fishing as I cant imagine a repeat of this last week happening again.
