Goldenloch october-24-10
Last week at the Goldenloch, the fishing has been much better after 1pm I think the reason for this has been the exceptionally cold nights and early mornings and it takes a few hours for the water to warm just a little, encouraging the fish to move, catches have been good but the favourite, the orange blob has been overcome by the yellow dancer which definitely has rung up the most fish, however some lads have been doing quite well with Diawl Bachs and buzzers especially right in the middle of the loch, this week saw the website hacked again, so we can only apologise to those regulars who make a point of looking it up, we managed to get it up and running within three days, so really it was just a small blip, this time, now for those interested in statistics, I have been doing some facts and figures, but basically the real reason is, we are looking into how and what we are going to do for next year, the following figures are in comparison to the year before 08 > 09
1. 12 months Oct 09 > 10, the angler numbers are down 42%
2. 12 months Oct 09 > 10, the total fish removed is down 7%
3. 12 months Oct 09 > 10, the fish introduced is virtually the same
4. 12 months Oct 09 > 10, Revenue is down 52%
5. 12 months Oct 09 > 10, Fish costs are up 12% to Oct 10
It is difficult to compare one year with another, as we lost basically 25% of this year to the weather, (Ice) and snowy conditions, also we have this year had problems with weed and algae, however the amount of fish removed by our records is only 7% less than the year before, ( a lot less C & R) but more dramatically is that the income figure is well down, again a lot of this is weather related, and also the fact that we never really had a proper summer, i.e. one where we would have loads of evenings with regular hatches, also the economy, lack of jobs and pensioners struggling to make ends meet, very noticeable is that most anglers have reasonably new cars, on talking with them, more than a few took up the governments deal on scrapage scheme, but are now feeling the pinch by having to fork out £200+ / month, so what of the future, well I reckon that for us we have to cast of some of the hard costs and that means for us, getting rid of the business Goldenloch Fishing, which will save us accountants fees and other associated costs, stop us having third party insurance or public liability cover, this means we will be like many or most of the other fisheries that do not have this protection, something which anglers do not seem to bother about, signage will be put up, explaining that we will not be responsible for any incidents, anglers will now make donations when they come to fish, equalling what they would normally have paid us when we ran the fishing as a business, by doing the above we would hope that we will be able to maintain the current level of prices and stocking for the next season and hope that anglers will enjoy their fishing as much in the future as they have done in the past.
