Goldenloch october-11-10
Since last week the weather at the Goldenloch has been pretty horrendous, Monday till Wednesday we had a howling gale, not a lot of anglers but a few brave lads that managed a few casts in between the squalls, Ian Brown and Tom Duguid, Kirkcaldy had a few as did K Dammer, Markinch who describes his fly as a gold head yellow sparkle, Jim Gourley and Allan Burke fishing late on Tuesday when the wind was quieter had a good day with 8 each using a gold head fritz, Thursday saw a really good days fishing with everyone getting a catch, however it has to be noted that 60% of the fish caught in the last week have probably been caught on this now infamous orange blob, 10% on yellow dancers and the other 30% being people that are persevering with traditional wet flies, the fritz was the fly to have back in the 80s and 90s it is definitely the blob fly that will be remembered in this part of the century, I get to see many different variations and creations as nearly all the anglers fishing here, tie their own flies and to be fair the biggest majority of them are absolutely brilliant, for amateurs some of these flies deserve to be on display, last week one gent arrived with his bag of newly created demon flies and after sharing them out in the car park with others they all then proceeded to catch fish on his flies, but I will add that sometimes it doesn’t work like that Saturday, saw a great fishing day one of those days when you know that people are just going to catch fish, and would you believe it the guy who did the best was using a Cats Whisker and a hot Damsel, Alec Burns, Kirkcaldy, had 15 keeping 2 for 6lbs, others using blobs and yellow dancers struggled, the water is crystal clear with very little weed, temperature is 12 degrees, the fish are moving in all areas, mostly in shallower water where they seem to be feeding just under the surface.
