Goldenloch august-23-10
At the Goldenloch we have just had four or five weeks without any substantial rain only showers and a lot of bright hot sunshine which has had the knock-on effect of causing an algae bloom trying to start, however it is only at one end of the loch and covers approx 2, maybe 3 acres, it is not a dense covering but rather a sort of thinly spread type of algae, but it does however discolour the water, it has not in any way stopped anglers catching fish as Saturday saw Mr Malcolm’s party of four from Livingston, have a blistering days fishing, catching fish in all areas of the loch using Diawl Bachs, they were joined later by two lads from Hamilton who had an equally enjoyable time returning loads keeping a couple each using only Diawl Bachs Mr Spence, Bulmullo having a very early session had 6 all returned as did John Hammond visiting from Carlisle, on Sunday morning he managed 8 using olive damsels and damsel nymphs, George Duff, Buckhaven had 2 which he returned using an orange blob, it is not all smiles however and some anglers are just not connecting with any fish, thank goodness it’s quite a rare occurrence two such lads had a dismal day and came of the loch very disgruntled not having touched a fish, but did however agree that they had seen plenty being caught and that they had fished in the same spot for their whole session, it is a very hard year for fishing and with the very changing atmospheric conditions including the wind, it does give some very challenging days, whilst speaking with other loch managers and anglers it is the same in many other fisheries and they have their own problems with weed algae and lack of fish being caught, what we need now is some real cold mornings, some rain and the fishing should be excellent.
