Goldenloch august-16-10
The last few days at the Goldenloch has been really hard fishing mostly due to the flat calm and continuous sunshine, however up till Wednesday past the fishing could only be described as really easy with anglers catching well into double figures regularly, and in all parts of the loch, fortunately several youngsters, beginners and ladies, gained good experience from this especially from the jetties, also turning up in the last week were some faces from long ago Jim Slaven and M Carnegie, Glenrothes had 9 between them returning 6 using dry’s and nymphs, Tim Dover, The Roost Restaurant, Bridge of Earn, caught a beautiful 5 lb rainbow on an orange nymph, this Tim serves up in his restaurant, having now sampled his fare, its delicious, the angler that must have found it most frustrating in the last few days has to be Mr John James from Errol, this gent who is just a wealth of information especially about the river Tay of old, had the inventible position of sitting right in amongst fish that were jumping all round about his boat, he could only but smile and laugh as literally hundreds of trout jumped and splashed everywhere, why, well as I explained last week the fish are scavenging on the bottom of the loch and filling their mouths with what we have discovered to be a dragonfly and damselfly nymphs, these bugs are obviously very tasty for the fish and they fill their mouths full, then swim fast through the water out into the air shaking their gills to clean the mud out as they go, quite an interesting spectacle especially if your sitting in a boat right in the middle of it happening, we spooned a few fish and actually cleaned a few, only to find them fully stuffed with these nymphs’ still alive and wriggling, last week torrential rain fell everywhere in Fife, bar here, and with so many days flat calm and strong sunshine, the water is now beginning to cloud a bit so we are running the aerators just as a precaution, this to keep the water oxygenated and also to try and keep the convection moving, Sunday saw a few lads have a great days sport J Hennan and R Grierson Methil, using bloodworms had many returned as did D Bellfield and B Peat, Kirkcaldy who were using orange blobs and just caught fish all afternoon in the blistering heat.
