Goldenloch may-10-10
Goldenloch anglers this last week have really had an excellent time with almost everyone getting a full bag of fish, with the weather much warmer and more gentle winds, it makes the anglers fishing experience just that little bit more comfortable, very noticeable this year and I am very pleased to see it, that a lot of anglers are only taking one fish home preferring to return the others that they catch, its good to see that the conservationist theme of not wasting a fish or two is in most peoples thoughts, water clarity is very good and the temperature is 14 degrees, the feeding in the weeds is phenomenal, making the fish grow and get fit into first class condition, we are putting off cutting the weeds just now as every angler coming of the loch is commenting about getting loads of offers and takes and a few lost fish as well as what they have caught, so why fix what aint broke if you see what I mean, the other thing is this summer, going to be one that is really hot and run the risk of having a load of green algae, it’s the weeds that use up all the excess nutrients’ that are in the water and these nutrients’ are the ones that cause the water to get a green algal scum we haven’t had it for a few years now as we have allowed the weeds to grow and then trimmed them, however this year due to the ice being on the loch for so long the weeds had the perfect growing environment and have basically got a few weeks head start on us, as my biologist fried explained that even although the water was iced and at zero on the surface the temperature underneath and on the bottom probably managed to get up to around 8 or 9 degrees’ which is basically good summer growing temperature, seemingly this is because all the natural rock and soil temperature are about that, any way that explains why the weeds grew and were so large when the ice melted, Youngster Sam Angus, Perth using a Bibio had 2 rainbows for 5.5lbs, and complete beginners Mrs Harvey and friend Sam caught 2 each using small olive damsels, this was more amazing as Sam was in a wheelchair and never held a rod before, Andy Burgerseed, Perth taking a little advice started catching after 2 hours with nothing and eventually ended up with 9, 8 returned using buzzers.
