Goldenloch 21/07/2008
Fishing at the Goldenloch is all about enjoying a days fishing and this last week has seen everyone have a really good time some more than others, however this year the fish are being really fussy about what they are taking and if they are not jumping about they seem to be feeding just under the surface, some anglers have cracked it by using brightly colored buzzers or small bright midge flies or hoppers Allan Gibson, Bridge of Earn who ties his own flies is having his best season ever and is regularly catching several fish every time he comes as does Derek Bell, Newburgh, J Dodds Bonnyrigg visiting with his pal S Rutherford using nymph buzzers had 2 for 6lbs and realised 7 while his mate only caught 1 but he had lost a few, both lads having a great days sport, as did the lads returning from a weeks salmon fishing up North, they popped in for a few hours on their way south and caught a few fish so they had something to show their wives for a weeks fishing in Scotland, but the best fun this last week has to be the lads that have been dapping Wednesday saw Mr Elves, StAndrews arrive with a 100 year old dapping rod and kit, his Granddads after spending a fair bit of time setting it up we got the massive fly to fly between 1 and 10 feet above the water (not easy) whilst it was hovering at one stage around the 2 feet mark this fish leapt out and missed it, with both of us in shock we were staring at the fly and within a second the fish returned, and this time it nailed the fly, neither of us could believe it and with the massive rod bend near right round we thought it was going to snap, however he managed to reel it in and I netted the fish a nice 3lb rainbow, another hour saw another 2 fish landed, so this week I have ordered a dapping kit from the Glasgow angling centre for any of you lads that want a bit of fun at least we wont have to worry about breaking a very old expensive rod as the new one is glass fibre.
