Goldenloch 18/02/2008
Fly fishing this past week at the Goldenloch has been really hard, and after much discussion with the anglers there didn’t seem to be a reason why, however this morning I phoned my fish supplier to see when my next delivery was due and in the conversation I had with him it transpires that none of the fish at the hatchery were interested in feeding due to the 2 degree drop in water temperature that has happened over the last few days which we ourselves had noticed, so is that the answer? Maybe! however its not that the anglers didn’t catch fish its just that they didn’t catch loads of fish , and what was caught was well appreciated, with anglers covering all areas from early morning it was in the bottom bay nearest the boats that all the action started about 11am as the temperatures rose with the sun shinning bright, Dave Gonsales Auchtermuchty had 3 followed by Ray Easton Bankfoot again with 3 returned, Stuart Summers fishing from the bank had a really slow start but ended up with 2 for 4lbs and returning 4 while his son Malcolm had 1, it was definitely a weekend for the bank anglers as most of the fish caught were within 10 > 20 feet of the shoreline, this morning I did my usual early trip down with the gun to frighten of the cormorants however there were none today but interestingly there were fish showing in a few arrears of the loch, now what is interesting here is that every morning for the past few weeks we have had a few cormorants which I think terrify the fish and that’s what is making the fishing slow in the early part of the day however the anglers all think that’s poo and are convinced its something else, so with another load of fish due on Thursday lets hope there is more normality next weekend and that Stuart Milne will stop annoying anglers with his complaining about not catching 9 fish however he did catch 2 after everyone had left commenting that their was a rise but not until about 4.30pm Jim Wilson confirmed this by catching 4 in 10 mins all from the boat jetty.
