Goldenloch 04/02/2008
Fly fishing in the first month of 2008 at the Goldenloch apart from the weather has been pretty good out of the 64 anglers that fished 3 caught 0 and the average for the other 61 was 3.2 but that includes anglers doing C & R so the real average catch was 1.8; 10 days were empty and several days were windswept total fish removed was 110, however the total stocked was 700, The next consignment of fish is brownies which should be 1.5lbs these are for the opening of the brownie season on March 15 and will be good complementing the head of brownies that already exists in the loch. So what about this past week well the weather has been shocking and anglers were faced with high winds and torrential rain 4 times I had to pump at least 5 or 6 inches of water out of the boats, the water is well stirred up and catches have been slow Billy Harris only managed 1 on Sunday morning for 2.5lbs however Stewart Summers fishing from the bank had 3 for 4lbs and returned 5 using a yellow dancer and Jim Wilson only here for a short while had 1 using a consett budgie, earlier in the week R Cummings from Forfar had 3 for 5lbs on a Montana on that day the weather was horrid and the rain just sheeted down, Wednesday saw good catches with b Ferguson getting 1 for 3lbs and returning 3 while her buddy had 2 for 6lbs.
