Week ending 17/dec/07 goldenloch
This Monday morning we awoke to see for the first time this year the loch frozen from side to side , however we have had a few days when we have had large sheets of ice like yesterday Sunday, 5 anglers arrived and not deterred took to the water, Mr Burns and friend had 7 between them using various brightly coloured flies, on their departure both exclaimed that they had a good day just a trifle cold, Mr Roberts was fishing from the bank a relative beginner he was struggling to get a line out yet he lost a few and caught 1 which was 2.2lbs, totally chuffed with his efforts, his comments on departing was see you tomorrow, well he will need to cut a hole in the ice if he is going fishing today, the other 2 lads fishing had a reasonable day and it was noticed that they had dropped a few but they did try to row through the ice sheet an spent a long time trying to get back out. So what about next year I need some comments from you chaps, we have held our prices the same for 3 years now and find ourselves in the situation that the loch is running at a loss, fish prices are rising and so are the many costs associated with the running of the loch, I have had a few ideas but the bottom line is we just need to charge more, our thoughts are £20 for a 3 fish limit 5 hours, and £25 for a 4 fish limit 8 hours, C & R will remain at £15 but it is to be 3 hours, we would really like you comments to info@goldenloch.co.uk. By request so far we have been asked to do a membership package which really will run like a summer season ticket the idea here is that members can come and go freely during the weekdays and have the advantage of being able to get fishing whenever they want, we kind of have this at the moment with a few anglers, however I am just a bit concerned how it will work with larger numbers. But my favourite idea is that we introduce a new ticket and it would cost £15 for a 2 fish limit or C&R it would be at your discretion, however it would be for 3 hours unless bought in bundles of 10 and that would then enable that person to fish for 5 hours per ticket, these tickets would be put in the box or given to me as normal, whatever happens we just want you guys to come and enjoy your day but we have to make it pay, this has been a hard year and it wasn’t helped by the disaster in 2006 and the brown algae at the start of this season, however that’s all past and we are looking forward to next year, with the added bonus of the fact that we know that the fish stock numbers are high going into 2008
