Week ending 30/july/07 goldenloch
Well as predicted something did happen that spoiled the fantastic fishing period that we were having 35mm of rain fell last Monday in an hour we had water everywhere the loch level rose 4 inches as we stood in the lodge and watched with the roof shaking every time a thunder clap went off, I haven’t seen anything like it since I was about 10 years old, what it did for the fishing was to make the water extremely dirty for a few days and completely cool down the water a few degrees, this has had a knock on effect it has stopped the hatches or rather slowed them down and there is not the same amount of activity in fish movement as there was, it is slowly getting better each day as the week is progressing however Saturday and Sunday saw very cold evening winds and right through the night the temperature has been low, coupled with a very changing wind direction the fish were not very happy or playful this weekend and of course this caused a few complaints from some, but interestingly the good guys or rather the regulars all did very well, it was the first time visitors that failed miserably which is a pity as we like everyone to catch fish at the Goldenloch, Many thanks to Pete Fleming and Co for the Boat it will be a very useful addition to the fleet and allow me to remove what effectively was our spare as it was not really very suitable as a regular boat, Cheers lads, With August just about upon us we are looking forward to a warming of the weather, this in turn should warm up the loch bottom (mud) and allow some spectacular hatches as we have all noticed the huge amount of bloodworms and worms on the loch bottom even at nights just now the windows are free from flies, that are usually attracted to the lights and why are there no moths where did they go, I have seen in years past the car so full you couldn’t get in if you left the door open, at the moment you occasionally see one or two, It cant be all bad however Mario had 3 fish on Wednesday using a brown buzzer, Mr Hyndman Muirhead visiting a few times has had great fishing catching and turning loads, Gordon Clark, Auchtermucty had 4 all returned, D Sinclair Strathmiglo 6 all returned using a deer hair Sedge, that’s one thing nearly every fish caught this week has been on dry flies or sedges so it cant be that bad, on reading the book everyone has done pretty good in fact its been a good week its just there has been the odd complainers, and they all been strangers, Saturday the 4th is already pretty busy for the boats lads so please don’t expect to turn up and get a boat then.
