Week ending 16/july/07 goldenloch
The Fishing this past week has been superb with nearly everyone having one of their best days this season or in some cases ever, with the huge hatch of tadpoles now turned to little frogs and out the water the fish are starting to look for an alternative food source, the snails and small insects, beetles etc seem to be the main source, however when a hatch occurs which seems to be about every hour or so for 10 to 15 minutes, the fish are ready and waiting taking the buzzers just under the surface or just as the fly has wings on the surface, for those fishing dry flies or buzzers (suspender or small skinny blacks) this has been excellent as a well placed cast right over this rising fish has been giving a lot of fun, with the right fly used, a fish on or at worst a lot of interest, best spots are the top bay and bottom corner just as you go up the bank side, however the fish are well spread all over the loch, The only downside this past week has been the weather, last Friday saw another huge fall of rain which again chilled the water no bad thing you would think, but it does spoil the fishing a little the next morning, also Saturday night saw a very cold East wind spring up for a couple of hours, again it just seemed to flick a switch and stop the fish dead in their tracks, however for the two lads that waited it through the reward was outstanding as at 10pm the water went flat and the fish just came from nowhere, I visited them then and they were to busy to speak as the fish were coming like torpedoes from all angles and drowning, nibbling their flies eventually coming of the water at 12 with big smiles, they both had a great time and had never experienced conditions like that before. Information for the gossip chaps It is not the Goldenloch that is being sold but the Farmhouse, for the past year we have been building a new house which you can hardly miss and now we are ready to move in, so we had put on the market and sold the Farmhouse, rumour has it that the loch was up for sale, SORRY that’s not correct and yes the fishing is really good. Having really good fishing was A Morgan and S Hayes Glenrothes using dry flies and Bill Jacobs with Gregor Bell and George Watson who all caught their first fishes here, Jim McPhee who had a great day as well as Tony Lithgow Cowdenbeath who was using CDC.
