Week ending 18/sept/06 goldenloch
Sunday Morning saw early morning fishers faced with fish gasping for oxygen, we couldn’t understand what was happening and assumed it must be something to do with the Algae that had been giving us a few problems earlier in the week, could it be turning toxic?, early oxygen tests showed levels to be very low but only in certain places and not where the algae was or had been, however as the day progressed the o2 levels started to climb and the gasping fish started to swim again, by late afternoon the o2 was about half-way to normal, fish were feeding and jumping as they normally do, on speaking by this time to several men of wisdom it started to become clear that an exterior force could be the cause and the name Cymag was mentioned more than a few times, at this moment in time we have samples of fish and water at SEPA and Police Labs, over 1000 fish have been removed and many thanks to those that helped with the clean up Carol has definitely won her bet by netting a good few hundred fish, the area that has been effected was about 50 meters wide right down the middle of the loch and it was fortunate that both sides remained clear and fish that managed to get into the sides were OK, Due to the huge number of fish lost we have decided to close the fishery for the first time in 20 years until we find out what really happened to-day.
