Week ending 05/06/06 goldenloch
Fishing at the Goldenloch this past week has been very frustrating for those that were fishing during the blistering heat of the day, as the fish were not interested in anything that was presented to them, but anglers getting up early or fishing very late were rewarded with good catches, Mr Kettles, Perth arriving at 6am had 6 in his first hour then commented that by 7.30 the sun had become really strong and with the wind disappearing it left a flat calm and for the next 2 hours the fish were just playing and chasing tadpoles, trying every fly in his boxes he could not catch anymore, George Melrose, Cupar on his first outing of the year had 3 in a couple of hours using his usual miniature dry flies, With the loch and surrounding marshland now producing an abundant quantity of flies and spiders, fishing should start to become more interesting as the first real quantity of Mayflies and water spiders have started to appear and can be seen in the early morning, Jim Young, Glenrothes commented that in all his years of fishing he has never seen so many buzzers shuchs lying on the surface, Jim fishing from 8am had his usual few and commented that it was really challenging,
Anglers were treated to a rare event one evening last week as two Ospreys had a mid air fight, which lasted for about an hour, the birds with claws and bills facing forward, struck each other in full flight, high above the Loch, plummeting down to the water as they fought, recovering and flying up high again for the next attack, both birds were screaming and losing masses of feathers which rained down onto the loch surface, everyone that was fishing were engrossed in the spectacle that happened and couldn’t be leave that two birds could make so much noise, eventually the larger bird seemed to win ands went on to get its usual supper, but the smaller one not to be out done reappeared from somewhere and after the big one left it went on to catch its supper, as loch owners we would wish that they find somewhere else to fish as this kind of behaviour is unacceptable and apart from that they never pay, its only beginners that don’t pay at the Goldenloch.
