Week ending 13/06/05 goldenloch
The very heavy rain that fell at the Goldenloch (30mm) on Saturday 4th June during the massive thunder storm has caused the anglers and the management a lot of grief, it washed masses of nutrient’s and nitrogen from the surrounding fields, what then followed was four extremely hot sunny days and in these conditions a huge growth of Algae appeared, never before has this happened so fast and by the third day fishing more or less ceased as the fish were submerged in green, John accepts part of the blame as this is the first time for 15 years that fresh straw bales were not added in March, as we would normally have done, it is now nine days later and the loch conditions have more or less returned to normal, complete with new straw bales and the happy fish are again feeding on the surface catches have been poor but a new system of paying was devised that allowed anglers that turned up to fish, PAY AS YOU GO FISHING, in this everybody was happy, anglers just paid for the fish they caught, no catch no pay. The management or rather John apologises to those anglers that had their fishing cancelled or refused however things have returned more or less back to normal. On a lighter note when the Algae was examined we were told in was good healthy stuff and that it was good for the water, its just that we had enough for every loch in Scotland, also our swans have now emerged with six signets enjoying the relative peace and quite of the Goldenloch in June.
