Week ending 24/01/05 goldenloch ffffreecing
With three quarters of the Goldenloch covered with ice we did not expect any anglers at the weekend, how wrong we were, Mr John Hatton Kirkcaldy and Mr Dunn, Glenrothes were both on the loch by 8.30 and were both catching fish very quickly, John however was soon back to his usual place back on the Jetty as the ice there had broken up and disappeared, arriving next was Mr S Hayes and Mr A Morgan both from Glenrothes suitably prepared for the winter weather starting on a boat they had their first fish within minutes and as the wind got cooler and stronger, the hardy pair moved to the bank where Mr Hayes had 3 for 6lbs returning 3 and Mr Morgan had 3 for 5lbs, believe it or not the flies were buzzers, another hardy pair were Mr Bob Cox and Mr Ged Burnett, Dundee using yellow dancers and damsels this pair had 8 and were delighted with the days fishing , it was one of those days when the sun just shone and warmed up the loch however by 3 it was back to freezing, one of the problems in fishing in icy weather is not catching your fly into the ice as one nameless angler will testify, as the only way to get your line back is by pulling till your cast breaks, leaving the fly firmly embedded in the ice, as the fish were moving just beside the ice this person determined to catch a particular fish lost more than the one fly, did he catch the fish well that’s another story.
