Changing flies to get catches, week ending 02/08/04 goldenloch
This past week at the Goldenloch has seen a slight change in the fishes feeding habits with the early summer damsel hatches now beginning to end and being replaced with vast buzzer hatches, a legacy of last years hot dry summer, when these eggs were laid, the fish are feeding on or just below the surface and can be seen cruising around all day but are most active at 8 am and 10 pm the evening hatch is also made more interesting with the sedge flies that are coming of the water, however anglers are not having it all their own way as the insect life is massive and the fish are being very particular in what they are taking, this combined with the changing wind pattern is making the fishing very hard, when anglers are getting it right the rewards can be very satisfying, Mr John Shaw, Markinch caught 5 returning 2 whoppers after catching his 3 for 8lbs, using a fiery brown nymph, all at the top end with fish feeding all around him all night and just enjoyed the challenge, Mr James Carrigan, Glenrothes fishing on his own, got into a fish on his first catch using a Diawl Bach, he then proceeded to catch his 3 for 7lbs and returned 4 all from the same fly, Mr W Pigdeon, Methil arriving on a night when it wasn’t raining managed 3 for 7lbs returning 1 using black orange buzzers, great to be fishing without getting soaked was his comment, fishing from the bank Mr Ross Finlay, Perth had 3 for 8lbs using small dry flies and his complete beginner friend having never held a rod before caught a gorgeous 4lb blue trout using Ross’s rod on his only successful cast, easy was his comment to Ross on returning the rod, yeah sure or just beginners luck.
